The SO Project: Tools
I've a feeling many posts for this final SO Project are going to repeatedly feature one particular brand. That brand is Real Techniques.
Real Techniques brushes are the mastermind of YouTube sensation and MAU Samantha Chapman.
They're the best brushes I've used and after initiating myself picking up the Core Collection for £21.99 - I continually add to my Real Techniques arsenal which grows upon my every visit to Boots.
Made from synthetic Taklon, they apply make up flawlessly & keep their shape despite my heavy handedness.
The handles are subtly rubberised which makes grip and therefore application even easier and cleaning them is a pleasure rather than a chore - I'm yet to experience any shedding or bristle loss.
...and the best thing? They're cruelty free and not tested on animals.
My only mild grumble is the price & whilst I appreciate they're not MAC expensive, it grinds my gears that you can buy these in the US a hell of a lot cheaper. If you're happy to wait for delivery then get on iHerb where first time buyers also obtain a further % off.
Prior to discovering Real Techniques I relied on The Body Shop for brushes. I liked the fact they didn't molt, although I found they did lose their shape quickly. They're still worth consideration, especially during one of the many 40% sales The Body Shop often has.
When it comes to cleaning my brushes a blob of Johnson's Baby Shampoo, brushing in gentle circular motions on the palm of my hand does the trick.
I rinse them clean and leave them to air dry flat on a towel (never upright in a pot as the water can cause the glue to unstick resulting in bristle loss)
Other tools include; Eye lash curlers - I lost my pricy Shu Uemura curlers and temporarily replaced them with a cheap Primark pair, 18 months later I'm still using them!
I also have an imitation beauty blender bought for £2.99 in H&M, although admittedly I don't use it too often as I don't think they're particularly hygienic.
What are your favourite beauty tools? Do you own any Real Techniques products? Whats your go-to brand for make up brushes?
