Lips For Autumn Winter - Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick
Autumn Winter is just around the corner and as the retailers begin to dig out their woolies once more our thoughts turn to whats going to be hot - and whats not in the chillier months of 2013.
I was fortunate enough to attend LFW in February and as predicted this winter it's all about the 90's grunge; oversized jackets, lumberjack shirts, leather panelling, chunky footwear and plenty of reds, purples and tartan check.
With this in mind I headed out to find my perfect red lipstick. The predecessor of this title, MACs Russian Red has gradually lost my heart. It's a bit too matte for my preference so I was on the hunt for a creamier formula in a vivid primary red as close to the MAC-daddy as possible.
Flittering through the isles in Boots I ummed and ahhh'd as I swatched shades of rouge on my hands. "Too bright - too dark - too orange - too matte - don't like the applicator!" ...I was destined to leave empty handed.
Then I passed the Revlon stand. Glowing out amongst a rather impressive shade selection was the Super Lustrous Lipstick in Revlon Red 730. Thee perfect red. Not too dissimilar to my previous MAC love in that 50's pin up shade - just in the creme formula I was after.
Boots had an offer on: 2 for £10 so I thought It would be rude not to take them up on their deal! Keeping the AW trends in mind I opted for the same Revlon line but in a grungy plum purple. Despite accumulating a mass of lippy over the years, Black Cherry 477, is a shade I'd never owned before. It's very dark and on trying it at home I realised it made my already pasty complexion paler still. Perhaps thats a good thing? You don't often think of bronzed skin when you think of Nivarna or The Jam do you?
If I'm honest I'm not sure if this is a false economy. It's quite dark and I'm not convinced that it suits me although the formula and packaging (transparent lip top for shade spotting once in storage!) is faultless. Perhaps it would be passable in a dimly-lit nightclub at 2am but for now I think I'll stick with my new Revlon Red to see me into the darker months of Autumn Winter.
What do you think of purple lipstick? Would you wear it? Do you alter your make up according to the seasons too?
