London Fashion Weekend With

This weekend I was lucky enough to attend London Fashion Weekend thanks to Fuse Fashion Network I also had tickets for the designer catwalk and a voucher to exchange for the London Fashion Weekend show bag. (I'll write another post soon to show you what's inside!)

My original outfit of choice was ready for the Spring but unfortunately this weather wasn't ready for my planned pastel ensemble! As it was so cold and snowing I decided last minute to wear something more practical and warm instead.

Black Primark Disco Pants £12.00
Primark White Shirt £8.00
Michael Kors Watch
Barry M Greenberry Gelly Nail Effects Polish

Tube line closures meant I had an unplanned 2 mile walk in the chill before I finally arrived a little dishevelled at the grand Somerset House. After reading a few blog posts and street style photos of the attendees of London Fashion Week and their daring outfit choices, I was a little apprehensive that I was considerably underdressed for the occasion.

Fortunately the Weekend is much more relaxed, with girls donning more ready to wear fashions than those who'd frequented the event a few days earlier. I spied lots of Monochrome so I felt I had chosen safe and the Jeffery Campbell inspired platform boots from AW12 still seemed a big hit amongst the fashionistas. I was also relieved when I noticed a few sporting my unintentional windswept look too - thanks London Underground!

My ticket permitted me access to the Issa London SS13 catwalk. The designer of choice for the likes of Madonna, Katy Perry and Kylie. Not forgetting the label behind THAT blue wrap around dress a certain Duchess wore during the announcement to the worlds media of her engagement to Prince William.

Presented by ITV2's Take Me Out The Gossip host Zoe Hardman (who did a stellar job at entertaining a cold and weatherbeaten crowd) The cheery jungle ambience set the scene and theme for the 5 minute runway.

The designs were initially unveiled at LFW last September and heavily featured tropical prints, exotic birds, fruits, and flowers. The audience was temporarily transported from the makeshift tent in drizzly London to somewhere of warmer climes.

The main fabrics used in the collection were silks in bright oranges and magentas. The designs were complimented with hair in simple top knots with the occasional floral headpiece custom made by Her Curious Nature, keeping the less busier fabrics as eye catching as the rest of the collection.

I've found some great Issa alternatives on where I've taken inspiration from the Spring Summer 13 catwalk at London Fashion Weekend:

As soon as the runway was over we were left to scour the pop up shops and check out the designer exhibitors who were selling their wears at discounted show prices. Brands such as Cowshed, Twenty8Twelve, Paper London and more filled the wings of Somerset House. As well as sponsored areas such as the Toni & Guy Salon, Elizabeth Arden Beauty Studio and the Benefit Brow & Lash bar. Lucky Vodaphone customers could bag a free Nails Inc polish on production of their Vodaphone mobile phone. (Being on o2, I was exempt - sob sob!) Nails Inc also offered free manicures but the sessions filled quickly and despite being there by 11am they we're already fully booked.

Elle hosted an area where you could subscribe to the glossy at a generous rate. I didn't take up the offer but did purchase the March issue featuring Victoria Beckham for just £1.00. If all the pampering & shopping got tiresome there was plenty of areas to grab a coffee - or a cocktail, as I tried hard to convince myself that a Mojito at 10am on a Saturday morning was absolutely fine!

Diet Coke hunks handed out mini cans of cola's and Mullerlight distributed pots of their yummy yogurts. There was also lots of discount vouchers being handed out by friendly PRs for the likes of Radley and Compeed.

After spending a few hours browsing the pop up shops, claiming freebies, watching demonstrations, and posing for a photo outside in the snow, our session time was up and my friend Courtney and I picked up our goody bags and headed off to grab some lunch.

London Fashion Weekend was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon; discovering new brands and talking fashion and beauty with like minded people all within the beautiful surroundings of Somerset House ...what's not to love?!
