Back Handed Compliment
Stiff collared German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld is usually commended for his witty one liners and his famous statements are often seen in quotation marks adorning any fashionista's Twitter bio.
You only have to check out Lagerfelds Twitter account (@KarlLagerfeld) to be met with cleverly worded musing and fashion inspired literacy genius.
But recently the Chanel designer & Fendi creator took his outlandish comments too far.
For reasons unbeknown to most rational human beings, we know pretentious designers prefer skeletal boyish flat chested clothes horses to runway their latest creations and often openly label perfectly healthy & normal sized girls as 'fat'.
Asked by internationally published urban rag Metro (which he was guest editing) on his views of flavour of the month songstress Lana Del Ray, Lagerfeld replied "I prefer Adele, as a modern singer she's (Del Ray) not bad - but at the moment it is Adele"
Awww, well thats nice! ...Until he added "She is a little too fat" then quickly backtracked "...but has a beautiful face and a divine voice"
Ironically the Someone Like You Singer will soon be gracing the cover of fashion bible US Vogue in March 2012, although there we're reports that Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour had commissioned special 'cover piece outfits' for Adele, perhaps indirectly insinuating that because of her dress size designer items were needed to be custom made.
Adele also featured on the October cover of the magazine's UK edition in 2011.
On questioned on her appearance during previous interviews, Adele explained: "I enjoy being me; I always have done. I've seen people where it rules their lives, you know want to be thinner or have bigger boobs and how it wears them down. And I just don't want that in my life"
"I have insecurities of course, but I just don't hang around with anyone who points them out to me."
...So I take it 78 year old Lagerfield won't be receiving any complimentary gig tickets anytime soon then?
